I also love to make device solar based:

http://www.greencheck.nl/index.php?...
Currently i'm working on a solar based kitchen timer.
I will look again at the power booster. Previous i could not make it work.

Greetings

This bq chip is not made for high wattages (only for uW and mW...). If you're interested in energy measurements throughout the year then you're in for a treat. I'm working on a project to characterize indoor energy availability. We have extensive data for office environments and a few mobile measurements (including a walk through Times Square at night). The data is freely available here. http://enhants.ee.columbia.edu/index.php/indoor-irradiance-meas
Indoor solar energy harvesting: a platform to (finally) get some numbers - metRo_urn:md5:b0328881d44eef1205095e94c8eb199d2011-12-10T00:08:45+01:002011-12-10T00:48:50+01:00metRo_
Will try to read your entire post in next days and hope to get some time and do some measurements too :)
