Entering the CNC world with a probotix fireball

After having borrowed my work's CNC so many times, I figured it would be better if I bought one :-)

Easy-phi project: the rack and its backplane

So I'm sure that after the previous post where I presented the easy-phi project, you'd like to see the actual hardware. So we're going to start with the rack:

Making the electronics for a $7 USD doppler motion sensor

I had no idea that you could find this kind of motion sensors on the internet for so cheap... But they come with a catch: you need to design some electronics for them.

The whistled: from whistle to sound recognition (and also some reminders for tinkerers out there)

Once again, here is a short video to show off a simple sound recognition algorithm implemented on the whistled:

As the platform could already do whistle recognition, I thought it would be nice to implement this nice feature...

The whistled: how to remake a dozen years old project the right way

Hey guys :-)
As the slightly changed adage goes: a video is worth a thousand words:

Amplifying nanosecond pulses for quantum physics experiments

Have no fear... even if this project sounds complex, you'll easily learn in this article many things about high speed electronics and PCBs.
In fact, my goal here is to teach you some basics about all the new problems that arise when you're dealing with GHz signals :-) .

Atsam3u + SDCard + USB cdc/msd + fat32 with at91lib & Chan's fat code

Yep, for the first time this will be (mostly) a code article :-) .
But if one day you want to make a Hi-Speed (480Mbit/s) USB composite device with CDC (communication) and MSD (mass storage) classes, this is the post you'll want to read.

Hacking a laundry machine in one day (SLE4442)

First of all, I have to say that I'm usually not the security auditing kind of guy.
However, when a friend asks you to have a look at his laundry machine.... well I can get curious :-)

Indoor solar energy harvesting: a platform to (finally) get some numbers

Means to extract solar energy are not new, but I'm still not seing anything solar-powered in my everyday life... Why is that so ?
Moreover, when you're trying to get some numbers on how much solar energy you could expect to harvest in an indoor environment, well... you basically don't find anything either...
So, let's build a platform that can finally give some info about the possibility to use solar energy to power your projects :) !

Having fun with a Teensy and an Acer Aspire One

Yes, this project was a lot of fun :-D .
As I had to disassemble my Acer Aspire One to replace its hard drive, I decided to do a couple of other modifications....

RGB led matrices with animated gifs

Hey guys, I just came back from a trip to China! Not only was it an occasion to visit this vast country but also a good opportunity to go to the numerous electronics markets in the cities of Xi'an and Beijing. Yes, even on holidays I'm still into electronics ;-) .
So here are the few interesting things I brought back, and especially what I did with them...

Electronic projects and Matlab

I have to admit, I am usually not the biggest fan of interpreted languages and high level programming. But in this case, they were very convenient.
This is thus a small article about what you can do in 3-4 hours with Matlab and a FTDI USB connectivity to your project. As an example, here is a project where my webcam output (well, kind of) gets displayed on my led matrix:
